How the Femilift® LASER works

The Alma FemiLift® Laser is a modern solution for intimate and vaginal rejuvenation of women. It allows fast, painless outpatient treatment with very satisfactory results.

During their life, changes occur in women. Deliveries, weight fluctuations and hormonal changes can damage and alter the tone of the vaginal mucosa, in combination with a relaxation of the pelvic floor. These physiological changes can lead to conditions such as urinary stress incontinence, vaginal atrophy and dryness, or even recurrent infections. The consequences on women’s quality of life and confidence are sometimes considerable, affecting sex life, social and professional relationships. Common activities such as work, travel or social events can become a source of embarrassment and insecurity.

The AlmaLaser FemiLift® allows a fast and effective intimate rejuvenation. The treatments are practiced in the office, are totally painless and therefore do not require anesthesia or down time. The results quickly become perceptible, and are accentuated beyond the second treatment.

Vaginal tightening

Many postmenopausal women will develop what is known as uro-genital atrophy, which can lead to vaginal relaxation and induce decreased satisfaction during sexual intercourse. The Alma FemiLift® Laser offers a simple and safe solution that restores the quality of the mucous membrane of the vaginal walls and improves the sensitivity of the vaginal tissue.

Treatment consists of punctually creating a significant rise in the temperature of the mucosa associated with micro-ablation of different layers of the vaginal tissue. This stimulates the regeneration of collagen, the contraction of elastin fibers, improves tissue vascularization and restores vaginal lubrication. The intimate tissues are rejuvenated, with thicker epithelium, new collagen fibers and decreased vaginal diameter.

Treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence

Female urinary incontinence due to stress is an extremely common and embarrassing condition that affects a high percentage of women. The Alma FemiLift® Laser offers a safe and effective treatment for this indication, allowing women to enjoy a much more comfortable life – quickly and painlessly with an immediate resumption of daily activity.

Treatment of vaginal dryness and recurrent infections

The rejuvenation of vulva-vaginal tissue by the Alma FemiLift® Laser effectively treats drought and recurrent vaginal infections. Rejuvenation improves vaginal lubrication and normalizes the pH and vaginal flora. The Alma FemiLift® Laser improves the local immune response and helps eliminate chronic vaginal infections.

Restoration of the vaginal mucosa after delivery

Childbirth involves many physiological changes in a woman’s body. After delivery, the vaginal walls may be distended and dry; The pelvic floor may be weakened. After the pelvic physiotherapy which will be advised in the first line, the Laser Alma FemiLift® brings an innovative solution by restoring the tone and the elasticity of the vaginal walls.

What is the procedure ?

The Femilift® procedure is a treatment that is carried out in consultation.
This is a fast (+ -10 minutes) and painless treatment. It therefore does not require any anesthesia, except if the treatment must also be applied at the entrance of the vagina in which case an anesthetic cream/gel will be prescribed.
Prior to Femilift® treatment, a full interview should inform the patient about the procedure and prepare for the Laser sessions. A leaflet will be given to you to remind you of the essential elements of the interview.
On the day of treatment, you will be greeted by our team who will prepare you for your Femilift® session

FEMILIFT® INTIMATE LASER VAGINAL REJUVENATION

Your questions
Can I benefit from the procedure if I already have an IUD?

YES

Is it painful before or after?

NO. The treatment is painless and less unconfortable than a cervical smear.

How long after the treatment can I have sex?

To be on the safe side, a period of 5 days’ abstinence is recommended to ensure full healing of the vaginal lining

Will I bleed?

NO

What type of products and materials will be used?

Materials that come in contact with the inside and outside of the vagina are disposable, single-use, which prevents the transmission of infections. The energy used to tighten the vaginal walls or correct urinary incontinence is a laser that induces the production of new collagen at the vaginal walls. The result is a complete vaginal remodeling, with restoration of the elasticity of the walls. The same kind of laser is used for facial rejuvenation and for wrinkle reduction.

I would love to have a baby in two years, should I wait?

FemiLift is effective for two years. If you plan to be pregnant within two years of treatment, we advise you to wait until your baby is born.

Can I get an infection following treatment?

No. To avoid infection, the Femilift requires a disposable individual probe that will be given to you at the end of your first treatment session.

If I have a vaginal yeast infection, will this treatment worsen my condition?

No, but if you are prone to such problems, it would be best to start with Gyneco-Canestene 2 to 3 days before laser treatment. Consult your doctor if you suspect a fungal infection. It will be preferable to postpone the Femilift in this case.

Can I have this treatment during my periods?

No. The Femilift® procedure should be performed outside the menstrual period as the blood you lose could interfere with the penetration of the laser and make treatment less effective.

Could the affect a bladder infection?

This treatment does not affect a cystitis, does not increase the frequency of urination or burning sensations when passing urine …

I suffer from pelvic endometriosis. Can I still use this treatment?

In most cases yes. If you suffer from severe pelvic pain during intercourse, your gynecologist may advise against it.

I take antibiotics, can I still benefit from the procedure?

YES

I will shortly undergo a laser hair removal, can I also benefit from Femilift thereafter?

YES

I think I have an STD, can I follow Femilift treatment?

It is best to be examined and cared for before any other treatment. A quick fix is to consult your local gynecologist.

How deep does the laser go?

The laser probe enters completely into the vagina to the cervix, 6-8 cm deep. The laser beam of light penetrates about 0.2mm (+ – 200 microns) deep into the vaginal mucosa. This depth is sufficient to reach the level of the mucosa where the new collagen is formed.

Can there be complications ?

Complications are extremely rare. CO2 lasers have been used for 30 years. They have proven their effectiveness and safety in many areas, including gynecology. A similar laser technique is used for facial rejuvenation and wrinkle reduction. It is mandatory that the equipment is used by a qualified medical practitioner.

Can I do some sports after the treatment?

Yes. Avoid extreme sports and intense efforts within a few days after treatment. Sex can be resumed after one week. Also avoid baths and swimming the first few days (showers are fine)

How many sessions will I need for a better result - and what is the interval between treatments?

We believe that 90% of patients will have a good result after 2 or 3 treatment sessions. Sessions are spaced out every 5-6 weeks for optimal efficiency. Continued remodeling and improvement should occur after the last session, up until 6 months. Expect the results to last up to 24 months or more.

How long will the treatment stay effective and what will happen after that?

We can expect a noticeable result for 24 months or more. When the effect fades, the vaginal region regains its pre-treatment properties. Femilift “recall” sessions can be performed later.

Can contraception, such as the pill, or implants, interfere with treatment?

NO

Does the treatment prevent prolapse?

Femilift can help in mild cases but it is unlikely that this procedure will prevent prolapse in the long term.

Can I have this treatment if I have had a hysterectomy?

YES

Can I have this treatment if I underwent previous vaginal repair surgery for prolapse?

In most cases yes. If a tension strip is used to repair the prolapse, the gynecologist may discourage it.

I am suffering from vaginal dryness, will this treatment worsen my condition?

No. On the contrary, the treatment will improve the lubrication. Recent studies show an improvement in the vaginal caused by the symptoms of menopause.

How long after giving birth can I try this treatment?

After giving birth, we recommend waiting 3 months to ensure that the tissues have had time to heal and recover a good vaginal tonicity. A prior physiotherapy is clearly indicated in this case!

Can I have this treatment while I am breastfeeding?

YES

Are there special instructions after treatment?

Only one. Avoid penetration for 5-7 days after Femilift®. You will be given vaginal suppositories to help speed up the healing process.

Can the treatment injure my clitoris ?

Non, the clitoris is miles away 😉

What will I feel/see after the procedure?

You may experience mild sensitivity or discomfort following laser treatment. Some patients also experience a slight swelling of the treated area. A slight discharge is not uncommon. Everything returns to normal within 48 to 72 hours.

Should I do something special after the treatment?

Generally speaking, there is no need to apply cream to the vagina. Healing vaginal suppositories containing hyaluronic acid will be prescribed. If you should have continuing discharge in the week following the treatment,  antibiotics might be prescribed but this is a rare occurrence. It is essential to have good hygiene.

Are there any risks ?

In the exceptional occurence that you should feel difficulty in urinating, consult a doctor. If you have previously had herpes, then you may have a reaction to the treatment. The doctor who practices the laser treatment will then have given you medicine to prevent any problems and it is important to take them to the end.

When should I plan my next session?

Usually, 2 to three sessions are recommended, spaced out every 4-6 weeks.

Recommendations

REMINDER: no sex (or bathing or swimming) during the first 4-5 days

Things to avoid after treatment

Any violent or extreme physical activity for 3 days and the same goes for a hot shower, bath, sauna. It is also best to avoid the use of tampons within one week of treatment.
